Wednesday Mega Sessions

Debate: Sourcing in the US versus Sourcing in China

Wednesday, 9/29, 8:00 am to 9:30 am

This session will be a presidential-style debate (new for CSCMP) about sourcing in the US versus China. The subject is one of the most important, far-reaching, and complex business issues facing companies today. The pros and cons include competitiveness, carbon footprint, standards of living and social fabric, infrastructure investments, product quality, supply chain risk, and labor issues. You will hear from two of the most qualified advocates from each side of the issue, with two distinguished members of the supply chain press posing the questions.

Bruce Arntzen, Research Director, MIT’s Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL)
Peter Bradley, Editorial Director, DC Velocity
Frank Quinn, Editor, Supply Chain Management Review
Siva Yam, President, US-China Chamber of Commerce

Finance: Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A’s) in Supply Chain Space

Wednesday, 9/29, 8:00 am to 9:30 am

Financial markets have surged since CSCMP’s annual conference last year. How does this affect capital availability for small, mid-sized, and large supply chain businesses?  What do you need to know to make your company attractive to investors? What are the different investing styles among capital providers? And what solution might be right for your company as you reach a different stage of growth? Our panel of private equity, venture capital, and investment banking leaders will bring you up to date on funding and M&A activity. Financing opportunities for a wide range of supply chain- and logistics-related businesses will be discussed.

David Bovet, Partner, Norbridge (Moderator)
John Q. Anderson, Managing Director, Fenway Partners Resources
C.J. Brucato, Partner, ABRY Partners
Joost Thesseling, Principal, CI Capital Partners

Surviving the Supply Chain Tsunami

Wednesday, 9/29, 8:00 am to 9:30 am

The past three years have yielded unprecedented economic events;  and today, the stakes have never been higher. Given the emerging war on trucking and the uncertainty it has created about the future, the traditional role of carrier and shipper negotiations must change or shippers could see their rates go up by as much as 15% to 20% within two years.

This session moves beyond the typical, "define the problem and discuss frustrations" and brings industry leaders together to discuss potential solutions for the issues that threaten corporate supply chains. Overall, unless there is true collaboration, carriers will experience much higher costs which will have to be passed through to shippers and significantly impact corporate supply chains.

Rick Jackson, Executive Vice President, Limited Logistics Services
Michael Regan, CEO & Chairman of the Board, TranzAct Technologies, Inc.

Panel Discussion: Key Elements of a National Freight Policy to Support Domestic and International Chains

Wednesday, 9/29, 8:00 am to 9:30 am

The U.S. transportation network supports the domestic and international supply chains that link businesses with suppliers, markets, and consumers throughout the nation and the world.  This network is integral to America’s economic competitiveness.  The challenge is to ensure that this network continues to support domestic economic growth and to provide the international competitive advantage that it has for decades.  Meeting this challenge will require strategic and collaborative public and private investments driven by a clear national direction.  You will hear from government and business leaders that both provide and use that network, and from senior representatives of US government agencies on their thoughts regarding key elements of a national freight policy, and will have the opportunity to engage them with your questions and ideas. This session offers an opportunity for you to engage panelists with your ideas and questions.

Tony Furst, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy, U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)
Dale Bonner, Secretary Business, Transportation & Housing, The State of California
Matthew K. Rose, Chairman, President, CEO, BNSF Railway Company
Richard Steinke, Executive Director, Port of Long Beach
Nicole Lamb-Hale, Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing and Services, US Department of Commerce
